How to Enroll in Health Science Programs

Step 1: Pre-Entrance Tests/Orientation Session
Attendance at one of the following orientations is mandatory. The purpose of the orientation session is to provide information, answer questions about the programs and to distribute application packets. Application packets will only be distributed at these sessions.

Step 2: Application
After submitting acceptable scores on the COMPASS test and attending orientation, an individual will be allowed to complete the application for admission. All requested information must be accurate and all statements must be signed in order for the application to be processed. Only AFTER the application has been processed will an individual become an "APPLICANT" and his/her name placed on the mailing list.

Acceptable TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) results must be submitted by applicants of the Radiologic Technology and Practical Nursing Programs whose high school education has been completed outside the United States. For paper-based international or institutional scores - 500 or above is required; for computer-based international TOEFL - 173 or above is required.

Pre-requisite courses: A current CPR-Healthcare Provider certification (meeting American Heart Association guidelines) will be required for all full-time health programs. Medical terminology at the college level, completed with at least a "C" average, is required for those applying to the Practical Nursing, Radiologic Technology, and Surgical Technology programs.

Step 3: References
Applicants must complete the Reference List form with the names and mailing addresses of three professional references. It will be the responsibility of applicants to submit three addressed, stamped, business-size envelopes to be used by Metro Tech to check references.

Step 4: Transcripts
Applicants must provide official high school transcripts showing the date of graduation (or official General Education Development [GED] test scores). An official interpretation of U.S. high school completion equivalency is also required for secondary education completed outside of the U.S. Also provide official transcripts from completed college/university courses and/or vocational-technical courses. Applicants may also include copies of official certificates from short-term courses they have attended and for which transcripts were not issued

Step 5: Documentation
Applicants may mail or bring all documentation, including the application, transcripts, reference list form, and envelopes to: Metro Tech, Health Careers Center, Attention : (program name), 1720 Springlake Drive, Oklahoma City, OK 73111. All required information must be received by the announced deadline

Step 6: Financial Aid
Applicants should contact the Financial Aid Office at 595-4437 for information regarding the types of financial aid available. This process may take several months to finalize. Therefore, it is the applicant's responsibility to handle the initial financial obligations of deposit and tuition.

Step 7: Application Review
Applicants will be accepted after a thorough review of all applications. All applicants will receive notification of whether or not they are accepted. Selection of applicants is based upon the following criteria: A) educational background; B) pre-entrance test scores; C) employment history; D) references; E) communication skills. Applicants for the Radiologic Technology program will also be required to complete two clinical observations and may be scheduled for a personal interview.

Step 8: Enrollment
Upon notification of acceptance into the program, the applicant must finalize enrollment by: A) handling financial obligations (a $35 deposit is due upon acceptance into the program); B) submitting documentation of a current physical examination completed on the form provided by Metro Tech; C) submitting documentation of current immunizations along with the completed immunization form; D) providing a current criminal history record, including sexual offender statement.
