Metro Tech partners with OKCPS Bodine Elementary to launch Student Leadership Academy

Metro Tech's South Bryant Campus launched the 1Accord Student Leadership Academy in September of 2015, which was designed to enhance the educational experience for students.

1Accord - funded by a grant from the Kirkpatrick Foundation and funds from the Metro Tech Foundation - stands for Action, Communication, Overcoming, Resilience and Diversity. During monthly after-school meetings, students hear from guest speakers that address these five areas and discuss assigned reading from The Student Leader in a roundtable format. The Student Leader text mirrors Metro Tech's Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership, and aligns with the school's Mission and Core Values

The Academy is comprised of six Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) high school students who attend Metro Tech half days and three 6th grade students from OKCPS Bodine Elementary. Bodine Elementary is located next door to the South Bryant Campus, and the two schools have partnered in multiple areas this school year.

In addition to monthly meetings, 1Accord planned a community awareness day that included organizing activities for daycare children at the City Rescue Mission, and taking a tour of TEEM Ministries.

1Accord is sponsored by Metro Tech employees Derek Lollis, David Martin and Billie Smith.
