Getting Started at Metro Tech

Whether you're a high school student or an adult ready to dive into a full-time program and build new skills, Metro Tech is here to guide you every step of the way. Our full-time programs provide quality career training designed to help you achieve your goals and succeed in your chosen field.

All career programs require an application. Many are open to both high school and adult applicants. Please review all career programs before applying. The admissions process and application deadlines differ for adult and high school students.

Adult Admissions Process

Step 1: Apply by the Priority Deadline

Complete a Full-Time Program Application to receive priority consideration.

The priority deadline for adult applicants (starting in the Fall Term) is May 1.
*The priority deadline for adult applicants interested in Surgical Technology or Aircraft Maintenance programs (starting January) is November 1.

Note: Applying does not guarantee selection. Once you have successfully submitted your application, you will receive a confirmation email with details about the next steps.

Step 2: Submit Documents by the Priority Deadline

Email clear, legible PDF copies or clear photos to career.advisors@metrotech.edu.

Required Documents (as applicable):

Official High School / GED / HiSET transcripts
Official College and/or CareerTech transcripts
Official Test scores (ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer, taken within the last 2 years)
Veterans/Active Duty: DD214 or proof of status

If requesting a waiver of the Arithmetic and Reading Accuplacer based on completion of College English Composition I, II, or higher and/or College Algebra or higher, college course grades must be within two years of the application deadline.

For Health Career Programs

Provide proof of prerequisite courses completed at an accredited college or an approved Oklahoma CareerTech. Include course name, grade, credit hours, and date. All courses must have a grade of “C” or higher and be completed within the last 5 years. No ED2Go classes.
TOEFL (for applicants educated in a foreign country) minimum scores are: CBT: 173, PBT: 500, and iBT: 61

Step 3: Schedule a Meeting with a Career Advisor!

When you have completed your application and submitted appropriate documentation, call 405-424-TECH and contact a Career Advisor to discuss your next steps! We encourage all applicants to meet with a Career Advisor to explore program options, application questions, and discuss whether testing is appropriate based on prior performance in school and work.

Career Advisors will let you know if more testing is required. To schedule a test, visit the Testing Center.

Most programs require testing in Arithmetic and Reading, with some exceptions.
- Aviation Maintenance Technician - Reading and QRAS
- Medical Assisting - Arithmetic, Reading, and Writing
- Practical Nursing - Arithmetic, Reading, and Writing
- Radiologic Technology - Reading, QRAS, and Writing
- Surgical Technology - Arithmetic, Reading, and Writing

Step 4: Selections & Notifications

Selections are 1-2 weeks after the deadlines. Accepted students are notified by email, and waitlisted students are contacted as openings become available—so keep an eye on your inbox!

Selection Criteria

When reviewing applications, we look at more than just test scores — we consider your unique background, achievements, and goals.

The following factors may contribute to your admission points or eligibility:

Accuplacer Scores
- Accuplacer results help determine your academic readiness for your chosen program.
- Validity: Scores are valid for two years from your test date.
- Testing Limit: You may take the Accuplacer up to two times per fiscal year (beginning July 1st - June 30th)
Military Experience
- Applicants with verified military service may receive additional consideration.
- We value the skills, discipline, and training gained through your service.
Legacy Points
- You may qualify for legacy points if you’ve successfully completed a full-time Metro Tech program in good standing.
TOEFL (For Health Career Programs Only)
- Internationally educated applicants must demonstrate English proficiency by scoring proficient or higher on the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), regardless of country of origin.
- Only the international TOEFL is accepted (not the institutional version).

Being waitlisted doesn’t mean your chance is gone — you may still be offered a spot as more program openings become available.

High School Admissions Process

Start building your skills, earning certifications, exploring military or college pathways, and preparing for high-skill, high-paying careers—all while still in high school.

Students also earn high school credit, with some classes counting toward computer, math, or science credits. A few programs even offer the opportunity to earn college credit!

We proudly serve students from Oklahoma City Public Schools, Crooked Oak, Millwood, and students attending virtual, charter, private, or homeschool within the Metro Tech district.

GPA and overall academic performance
Interests and involvement at school or in the community
Career goals and motivation for applying
Work or volunteer experience
Commitment to program participation
