The barber program is designed for students that would like to obtain an Oklahoma Barbering License from the Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology and Barbering. The curriculum includes 1500 hours of technical instruction and practical skills covering barber practices that will properly prepare students for an entry level career as a licensed barber. Students will learn basic manipulative skills on shaving, haircutting, styling, advanced barbering services, the science and safety of barbering, and the business of barbering. Such criteria will properly prepare students to pass the State Board Examination and to prepare for successful employment as a barber.

Helpful Attributes and Abilities

Required Prerequisites

  • Minimum of an 8th grade education and 16 years of age with documentation of student’s date of birth
  • An employment authorization card or a social security number is required for this program due to licensure requirements
  • English proficiency test for those who speak English as a second language
  • Oklahoma State Board of Cosmetology registration; $5.00 fee required
