STEM Students Place at Technology Student Association State Conference
More than 20 Metro Tech STEM Academy Students recently placed at the Oklahoma State Technology Student Association (TSA) State Conference. Top placing students qualified for national competitions in Louisville this June.
The Metro Tech Pre-Engineering program took home 16 top ten awards and one student qualified for nationals. Joining his fellow Oklahoma TSA students in Louisville is William Monden, an Epic Charter Schools student who placed first in the Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) Engineering competition.
Harding Charter Student Rakayla Coulter placed first in the T-Shirt Design competition. The winning design will be featured on T-shirts that will be worn by all Oklahoma TSA students competing at the national competitions. Coulter also placed eighth in the Children’s Stories competition.
In the Flight Endurance competition, Northwest Classen Student Neri Oxlaj placed fourth while Juan Dedios, of Capitol Hill placed fifth and U.S. Grant Student Silvestre Moreno placed eighth. Phayshon Wright, a student of Crooked Oak placed fourth and Southeast Student Aaron Garcia placed fifth in the CAD Architecture competition. In the Structural Design and Engineering competition, Nenette Juarez, a student of Capitol Hill and Marisol Senteno, a Southeast student, placed sixth.
In Music Production, Epic Charter Schools Student Kellen Castle placed eighth and Capitol Hill Student Angel Orquiz, placed ninth. Millwood Student Jaylin Wilson placed third in the Career Prep competition and ASTEC Charter Schools Student Kiely Elder placed sixth in Project Fair.
“I love watching our students represent the STEM Academy during competition season,” Jake Thomas, Pre-Engineering Teacher at Metro Tech said. “It’s very cool that one of our students’ T-Shirt designs is going to be worn by all Oklahoma TSA Students at nationals, too.”
Computer Science Students received five awards from team competitions. In the Digital Video Production competition, Homeschooled Students Elijah Jones and Erick Jones placed sixth. In Video Game Design, Erick and Southeast Student Jorge Merino placed third.
