Oklahoma County 911 Communications Center Now Operating at Metro Tech Public Safety Academy

Oklahoma County 911 Communications Center Now Operating at Metro Tech Public Safety Academy

The Oklahoma County 911 Communications Center is now fully operational at the Metro Tech Public Safety Academy on the South Bryant Campus. An official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday marked the opening of the state-of-the-art facility, which was built to enhance emergency dispatch in Oklahoma County and further Metro Tech’s mission of preparing the next generation of public safety professionals.

Spanning 4,100 square feet, the FEMA-rated safe room features 11 workstations, each equipped with adjustable desks and monitors, a quiet room, and an enclosed viewing area designed for students to observe operations. Construction began in 2021 after Oklahoma City voters approved an $80 million bond issue for Metro Tech.

“Our mission is focused on transparency, modernization, and care for our communities,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff Tommie Johnson III. “This partnership is a direct extension of our vision to train future public safety professionals using real-world tools and real-world environments. Our deputies are proud to support curriculum development and mentor students interested in joining the public safety workforce. We are preparing the next generation to not just enforce the law but understand and serve the communities they protect."

In addition to serving the community, the center will provide shadowing opportunities for Metro Tech Public Safety Academy students. High school and adult students enrolled in the Law Enforcement, Firefighter Services, and Basic Peace Officer Certification programs will have the opportunity to observe dispatchers in real time.

“This center is a significant investment in both public safety and workforce development for Oklahoma County,” said Metro Tech Superintendent & CEO Aaron Collins. “By housing the Center in the same facility where our students train, we are building a direct pipeline of skilled public safety professionals who will serve and protect our communities for years to come.

One of the largest and most diverse technology centers in Oklahoma, Metro Tech has four campuses offering short-term, career and customized business training options. Campuses are located in South Oklahoma City, Northeast Oklahoma City, Downtown Oklahoma City and the Will Rogers Airport.
