OKLAHOMA CITY – Metro Technology Centers was recently recognized as the largest post-secondary/collegiate chapter at the 2022 Future Health Professionals (HOSA) International Leadership Conference in Nashville, TN. In addition, all six Metro Tech students competing at the conference placed in their respective events. This year’s conference hosted more than 9,000 secondary and post-secondary students.
The Metro Tech Students who competed in HOSA Internationals qualified when they won at the Oklahoma HOSA Leadership Conference in April 2022. The students competed in three events, Nursing Assisting, Creative Problem Solving, and Health Care Photography. Breanna Skyes, Post-Secondary Practical Nursing Student, won bronze in the Nursing Assisting event. Haley Payne, Keeli New, Kayla Mcnack, and Jamey Wehrenberg, Post-Secondary Practical Nursing Students, won gold in the Creative Problem-Solving event and Melissa Rivera, Post-Secondary Medical Assistant Student, won Gold in the Health Care Photography event.
Also recognized was Samir Elneser, a graduate of the Metro Tech Radiologic Technology Program, as an Outstanding HOSA-Future Health Professionals Alumnus.
Tonja Truitt, Metro Tech Practical Nursing Instructor, said this accomplishment is nothing less than a reflection of the hard work of the students and the support received from the institution.
“These students spent out-of-class time to prepare for these competitions,” Truitt said. “We as their advisors are so very proud of these students that have had this opportunity to represent Metro Tech with their successes. We all want to thank Metro Tech for giving our students the opportunity to walk on the big stage at the HOSA International Leadership Conference and show what Metro Tech has prepared them for.”
