Metro Tech Unveils New Training Facilities at South Bryant Campus

Metro Tech Unveils New Training Facilities at South Bryant Campus

Metro Technology Centers is celebrating the completion of four newly constructed training facilities at its South Bryant Campus.

Four Years in The Making

Designed by Renaissance Architecture and built by Quad Construction, funding for the project was established through Metro Tech's 2019 Community Bond Initiative. In 2021, construction officially began for the new Public Safety Academy, Industrial Technology Center, Law Enforcement Training Center and Automotive Technology Center.

Public Safety Academy

2023 SBC Public Safety Academy

At 54,000 sq. ft., the newly constructed Public Safety Academy with redesigned classrooms, offices and training areas will provide high school and adult students with industry-standard first responder training.

Full-time programs for high school students looking to get their start in a career in public safety, such as the Oklahoma City Police Department's Cadet program, will also have access to fitness rooms and driving and firearms simulation rooms.

"Our collaboration with Metro Tech on the Law Enforcement Cadet Program has been instrumental in creating a pipeline of future officers and diversifying our police academies," OCPD Chief Wade Gourley said. "With these new facilities, Metro Tech is raising the bar for law enforcement training and professional development, empowering our graduates and current officers to serve and protect their communities confidently."

Also housed within the Academy will be the 4,100 sq. ft. Oklahoma County Sherriff’s Office 911 Dispatch Center. This space will accommodate 16 call officials and serve as a training ground for students interested in pursuing a career in the field of emergency dispatch.

High school students within the Firefighter Services program will also have access to the fitness rooms, their own training spaces, and a multi-vehicle apparatus bay. Also sharing the facility will be the short-term Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program for adults with its own training classroom, ambulance simulator and space for a cadaver lab.

Law Enforcement Training Center

The short-term Basic Peace Officer Certification (BPOC) Academy will also have designated classroom and training spaces within the Public Safety Academy and the new Law Enforcement Training Center adjacent to the facility.

The 14,200 sq. ft. new Law Enforcement Training Center will offer a firearms training space for adult students within BPOC Academy and continuing education courses for local law enforcement agencies. It is complete with a state-of-the-art 12-lane, 50-yard range, classrooms, and offices.

Industrial Technology Center

For high school students and adults, trade programs such as construction, welding and electrical will move into the new 34,584 sq. ft. Industrial Technology Center.

Also housed within this space will be the high school Aerospace Maintenance Foundations program, previously held at the Metro Tech Aviation Campus at Will Rogers World Airport.

The Center features four 3,787 sq. ft. to 5,071 sq. ft. lab spaces for each program, complete with overhead door access and outdoor storage space. Adjacent to each lab are offices with visual access, 20-student classrooms, tool rooms and restrooms. Above the labs is a Mezzanine space that will provide options for additional classrooms and offices.

Automotive Technology Center

2023 SBC Automotive Technology Center

The Automotive Technology Center underwent approximately 17,300 sq. ft. in renovations and 12,358 sq. ft. in additions.

The newly renovated 31-bay automotive shop areas, offices, classrooms and auditorium now serve as a modernized space for students within the full-time Automotive Service Technology and Collision Repair programs and related short-term programs. In additions, the Center received a new, secure front entrance and a new lobby with a glass reception area and attached workroom.

Metro Tech Superintendent Aaron Collins said the modernized facilities will help meet workforce demands in Oklahoma City by providing more students with industry-specific training.

"Thanks to the unwavering support of our community, Metro Tech can broaden its offerings and accommodate a greater number of students by establishing these new facilities," Metro Tech Superintendent Aaron Collins said. "The demand for our programs is consistently high, and we aim to guarantee that both high school and adult learners have access to the necessary training to pave the way for a career in a highly-paid field. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to our community for their dedication to our District."
