Metro Tech Honored with Awards and Recognitions at 2025 OkACTE Summit Conference

Metro Tech was recognized for its continued excellence at the 58th Annual Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education (OkACTE) Summit Conference held this week in Tulsa. In addition to receiving the Gold Star Award for the 24th consecutive year, several Metro Tech faculty and staff members earned state and division honors and recognitions, with some being considered for regional and national awards presented later this fall.

The OkACTE Summit Conference brings together more than 4,000 career and technical education (CTE) professionals from across Oklahoma for professional development, collaboration, and recognition of outstanding contributions in the field. One of the most prestigious recognitions, the Gold Star Award, honors CTE districts with exemplary programs that demonstrate innovation, impact, and a strong commitment to meeting the diverse needs of their communities.

“Metro Tech’s success at Summit reflects the dedication of our entire district to preparing Oklahoma’s future workforce,” said Metro Tech Superintendent and CEO Aaron Collins. “We’re incredibly proud of the team members who were recognized for their leadership and service. Their passion and commitment to quality career training continue to advance our mission.”

Metro Tech Faculty and Staff Award Recipients: 

  • Shelly Fairbanks, Recruiting & Outreach Coordinator – Counseling & Career Development Professional Award
  • Jema Copeland, Data Analyst - Outstanding New Professional Award, New & Related Services (NRS)
  • Kennell Winrow, Project SEARCH Instructor & Coordinator – Dennis Portis Rising Star Award, Education Services- Special Populations (ESSP) Division
  • Anita Parks, Education Technology Coach – Lifetime Achievement Award, NRS Division
  • Cody McPherson, Environmental Safety Coordinator – Postsecondary Professional of the Year Award, Postsecondary Adult Career Education Division
  • Dr. Michele Sanders, Dean of Instruction – Teacher Educator of the Year, Administration Division
  • Sandra Sanchez, Assistant Director of Enrollment and Student Services – 2024-2025 OkACTE Fellows Program Completer, NRS Division

Candidate filing for Metro Tech Board of Education District Seats 2, 4, 5, and 7 will take place December 1–3, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Oklahoma County Election Board at 4201 N. Lincoln Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73105.
