Metro Tech Receives $16,060 Public Space Initiative Grant from Oklahoma City Community Foundation
The Metro Tech Springlake Campus, 1900 Springlake Dr., will undergo several new beautification projects this spring and summer thanks to a $16,060 grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF). The grant is part of the Foundation’s Parks and Public Space Initiative, which supports the use of public parks for recreation, health, and wellness activities in the community.
These projects will be implemented in two phases. For Phase I, Metro Tech students, staff, faculty and community volunteers will plant 35 trees alongside the newly constructed walking trails. Completed in October 2023, the Metro Tech walking trails span approximately one mile and provide an opportunity for community members to visit the Springlake Campus and enjoy its scenic views.
Phase II will include the installation of a new art structure in the central rest area that will be designed and fabricated by Metro Tech students. Once Graphic Design students complete the layout, Welding students will begin construction. This phase will also include the addition of shrubs, dirt work, plants, and crushed granite around the structure.
This grant is one of 10 grants awarded through the OCCF Parks and Public Space Initiative, which was grown out of the Margaret Annis Boys Trust. In all, $188,088 was awarded during this grant cycle.
“We are immensely grateful to the Oklahoma City Community Foundation for their continuous support of Metro Tech,” Superintendent Aaron Collins said. “This grant will encourage the community to utilize the trails on the Springlake Campus and allow our students the opportunity to combine their skills and make a lasting impression.”
