The Basic Firefighter Career Major prepares students for the physical requirements of being a firefighter and gives students the basic knowledge needed to be a firefighter and attend an academy as an adult. Students also learn to work with the same tools and equipment used by firefighters and practice with them in similar scenarios.
Here's what students, Zach and Bianca love most about being Basic Firefighter cadets at Metro Tech!
In celebration of Career and Technical Education Month and to end National School Counseling Week, the current spotlight is about on one of our amazing CareerTech counselors, Leslie Cooksey!
Cooksey actually got her start at Metro Tech as a Teacher, and it was her love for supporting students that inspired her to become a counselor.
"I wanted to become a school counselor to help students navigate their transition from public school to the beginning stages of their career," Cooksey said. "I know that along the way, there can be a lot of personal struggles, and I wanted to support them through that, too."
"My favorite part of every day is working with our students to ensure they feel supported through their journey," Cooksey said.
Now that Cooksey has been at Metro Tech for almost 10 years, she says her favorite part about being a counselor in CareerTech is working with students one-on-one and playing a part in the planning of their futures.
We don't know what we would do without the incredible support system that is our team of counselors.
Thank you, Leslie, for all you continue to do for our students!
This course is designed to provide students with the basic knowledge and skill set to provide care and transportation to the sick and injured and prepare them to take the National Registry EMT Exam.
