Eye Care Technician

Eye Care Technologies is a full-year career major and is designed for students interested in fields such as optometry, ophthalmology, eye care assisting, ophthalmic photography, and other eye care related fields. The program includes course work and practical hands-on applications in the following areas: prevention, mechanisms, effects, and rehabilitation of vision threatening disease; diagnostic testing, assisting, and medical documentation in the eye care clinical setting; first aid, CPR, and emergency procedures; ocular anatomy and physiology; and eye care careers. The program also offers practical experiences with local eye care specialists. The Eye Care Technologies program will provide students the knowledge, attitude, professionalism, and necessary skill level to obtain an entry-level position in some aspect of eye care and/or prepare them to go on to higher education and pursue advanced degrees in eye care.
Completers may be eligible to sit for the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant exam through the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel and Ophthalmology.
