Medical Assistant

Medical assistants are multi-skilled health professionals who work primarily in ambulatory settings such as medical offices and clinics. They perform clinical and administrative tasks and their duties vary by office or clinic. The major combines classroom, laboratory and work-site learning components to ensure that each student achieves entry-level competencies for the medical assistant. Students practice in a variety of settings as chosen by the instructor.

• Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

• Reading skills at the 10th grade level or above; math skills at the 10th grade level or above
• The ability to work well with others
• Mental alertness
• Drug free
• Immunizations
• Dependability
• Organizational skills
• Attention to detail
• Good communication skills
• Basic typing and computer literacy skills

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Be 18 years old or older at the time of clinical assignment
• CPR for Healthcare Providers via American Heart Association
• Submit proof of current vaccinations
• Submit proof of physical
• Undergo background check
  • Individuals with felony convictions on their background check will encounter limitations in participating in clinical rotations, significantly affecting their ability to successfully complete the program.

*The Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act Paragraph H(2)(c) of Section 427.8 states that individual with direct patient care or administering pharmaceuticals cannot be under the influence of marijuana. Therefore, students who come up non-negative on the drug screen for marijuana will not be able to continue in the program, even if the student has a medical marijuana card.
