Basic Peace Officer

Through a collaborative effort between the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training, the Legislature and Career Tech, there is an alternative to Basic Peace Officer Certification. The Basic Peace Officer Certification Academy (BPOC) Program. The program identified in 70 OS 3311.16, offers an additional route to full-time and reserve officer certification for individuals interested in pursuing a career in Oklahoma Law Enforcement.

• Basic Peace Officer Certification

The state of Oklahoma will not recognize both a Medical Marijuana Card and a Peace Officer Certification.

• Reading and math skills at the 10th grade level or above
• A positive attitude
• Good communication skills
• The ability to relate to people in a caring, empathetic manner
• Good eye-hand coordination
• Good physical and mental health
• Dependability
• Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of personality types

• Must be cleared for participation through a physician’s assessment
• Must participate in, and pass, a physical agility test 
• Must attend Pre-Academy Orientation
• Must be 20 years of age
• Must have HS Diploma or GED
• Must Complete C.L.E.E.T. Basic Academy Application (including fingerprints, background check, physical assessment and POSSE exam, MMPI)
• Drug testing for non-sponsored or self-pay students
